Samhain: Basics I

Host Intrusion Detection Systems can provide a wealth of information about a running system. In some cases, they can help identify anomalies which could have been caused by a security incident.
In this lab exercise, Samhain event logs of a compromised machine are provided. Analyze Samhain's event log and answer the following question:
- The attacker had modified a system binary. Provide the full path of that binary.
- What was the name of the user whose account was used to carry out the attack?
- The attacker used a payload for exploiting the server and as soon as the attack was performed, the payload was deleted. What was the checksum of that payload?
- Samhain logs are located at /var/log/samhain_log
